Kururi Volunteer Guide Association

Guide Area Kururi area in Kimitsu City
Available language English
Features Let us guide you through the history of the Kururi area. Kururi Castle was built during Japan’s Warring States Period by Satomi Yoshitaka from Awa Province (now southern Chiba prefecture) to serve as his base of operations against the Hojo Clan in Odawara Castle (Kanagawa Prefecture).

During the Edo Period, the castle was home to the Osuga, Tsuchiya, and Kuroda clans and the area flourished as a castle town of 30,000 koku of rice. It is also the site where Kazusabori well-drilling method was developed in the mid-Meiji Period. The well provides drinking water right within the town and has been chosen as one of the 100 best water environment in Japan (and the only one in Chiba).
