Volunteer tour guide

The volunteer guide is a member of group that shows you around the area where the members live in. They introduce the fascinations of the area to sincerely welcome visitors.

Bay and Tokatsu Area

Ichikawa Tourism Association, Volunteer GuidesAssociation

Guide Area : The whole area of the city, including Ichikawa, Mama, Nakayama,Yawata, Gyotoku, and so on.

Features : The association’s volunteer guides help you to visitcultural/historic sites of interest, spots of scenic beauty andnatural attractions in the city so that as many people as possiblecan get to know Ichikawa so as to promote friendship andcultural interchange among people.

Matsudo City Guide

Guide Area : The whole area of the city, including Tojo-tei (Old Tokugawa Residence at Tojo), Yagiri, Kitakogane, Faculty of Horticulture ofChiba University, and Matsudo-shuku (Old Matsudo post town).

Features : While enjoying friendly interchange with tourists, volunteerguides take you to places of interest in the city, such as Tojo-tei,which is an old residence of the Tokugawa Family of the EdoShogunate period, in particular explain the connection withYoshinobu Tokugawa, Japan’s last shogun, and his youngerbrother Akitake.

Murasaki-no-Sato, Noda Guides Association

Guide Area : The midtown area of Noda City, Sekiyado district, and thevicinity of Shimizu Park

Features : Strolling through the “town of shoyu (soy sauce)” is the leader ofNoda. You will be guided through the town where you can visitthe majestic buildings, lots and “shikomi-gura” (traditionalpreparatory stock house) with a long history as soy sauceproducers who inherited traditional soy sauce production fromthe Edo period and who, therefore, are still called “Zoka-san(Architects)” by townspeople out of respect. (Tour courses forindividual and group are available.)

Sinsengumi Nagareyama Tai

Guide Area : Historic sites including the old section of the city, with a focus onShinsengumi and the Edo period.

Features : The group carries out activities related to Shinsengumithroughout Japan, from historic studies to performance of stagecombat. The group’s “Guided Walk to Historic Spots inNagareyama” is recommended for history lovers as this one-daytour takes you through the historical highlights full of interestinganecdotes and episodes and the latest view of Shinsengumi aswell. The time schedule and places to visit can be arrangedaccording to your wishes. Guides may dress in Shinsengumioutfits, if requested.

Nagareyama Historic Site Touring Association

Guide Area : Nagareyama city sightseeing

Features : Tour course will be selected by the association according to yourwishes: 2-hour city walking tour.

Nagareyama Historic Site Guides Association

Guide Area : Nagareyama city sightseeing

Features : You will be guided through historic spots within the city with afocus on the distinctive characteristics of Nagareyama. Bothadults and kids of all ages can enjoy the tour.

Abiko Guide Club

Guide Area : The whole area of the Abiko city and neighboring locations

Features : Seven regular tour courses are available. Other courses can bearranged according to your wishes (tour for about 2 hours).

Furusato Abiko Guides Association

Guide Area : The whole area of the Abiko city and neighboring locations

Features : The maximum number of tour participants is 20 for each tourgroup. A tour course can be arranged according to participants’wishes.

Old Murakawa Resort Villa Civic Guide

Guide Area : Old Murakawa Resort Villa

Features : Civic guide with local taste. Each volunteer guide has his/herstrong area such as local history, vegetation, and culturalproperties.

Kamagaya-shi Local Resource Center CulturalAsserts Guide

Guide Area : Shimousa Kogane Nakanomakiato (national historic site), KamagayaGreat Buddha, etc.

Features : Eight tour courses are available. You will be guided through thecity with a focus on historic sites and cultural assets.

Discover Funabashi Executive Committee

Guide Area : Main guided locations: Funabashi Honcho, Miyamotocho andMinatocho (old Funabashi town)

Features : The following walking tours are organized by the committee: Oldbattlefield walk at the site of the Boshin Civil War (the day of theFunabashi battle was in 1868), walk celebrating the anniversaryof the birth of author DAZAI Osamu, “Oku no Hosomichi” walkat the 140th degree of the east longitude, and the Seitohki walkcommemorating the death of DAZAI Osamu.

Burari Urayasu Guide

Features : Visit places of interest, historic sites and scenic spots in the citythrough a guided a walking tour.

NPO Transport Culture Federation "HokusoShinsengumi"

Guide Area : Nagareyama city sightseeing, including the historic site ofShinsengumi Headquarters (currently the lot of Akimoto Corporation),and the surrounding area of Ryutetsu Nagareyama Station.

Features : The federation aims to promote the lively energy of the regionthrough the transport culture activities; for example, itssightseeing guide activities linked with Shinsengumi andYoshitsune are also contributing to the promotion of the livelyenergy of the region, building of attractive region as well as thepromotion of railway utilization, although seemingly theseactivities have no connection.

Hokuso Area

Choshi Volunteer Guides and Tourist Boat CaptainsAssociation

Narita Volunteer Guides Association

Features : Bilingual guide for tourists who visit Narita-san ShinshojiTemple and Sogo Reido Mausoleum (Toushoji Temple) inJapanese and English.

Shisui Furusato Guides Association

Guide Area : The ruins of the ancient Motosakura Castle (national historic site) andits surroundings; Shisui-shuku (old Shisui post town) along the oldNarita Road and its surroundings.

Features : Tour takes you through the highlights of the historical town ofShisui, the town that saw its brilliant era in the medieval age,together with its natural charms, with a special focus on the ruinsof the ancient Motosakura Castle (national historic site),monument of the well of sake (“Sake no I no Hi”) from whichthe town name came, and Shisui-shuku.

Sakura Castle Park Volunteers Association

Guide Area : Sakura Castle Park (the ruins of Ohtemon -front gate of the castle- andHonmaru -donjon-, dry moat, etc.)

Features : Historic walking guide in Sakura Castle Park, including the ruinsof the castle and the remains of the Sakura Regiment barracks.

Sakura-shi Elderly Human Resource Center (TourGuide Team)

Guide Area : The whole area of the Sakura city

Features : Taking advantage of senior members’ abundant knowledge andexperience, volunteer guides will make sure that you enjoy thehistoric heritage and hospitality worthy of an international city(Sakura was called the “Nagasaki of Eastern Japan” in the Edoperiod).

Cultural Assets Volunteer Guide Sakura

Guide Area : Old Hotta Residence, Bukeyashiki (samurai house), JuntendohMemorial House, and the old castle town section.

Features : Tour guide focused on cultural facilities (English guide isavailable subject to prior reservations.)

Sakura Interpreter

Guide Area : Imba Marsh and the old section of the Sakura city

Features : Houseboat tour across the Imba Marsh, which is full of naturalcharms, and explanations on ancient style fishing. Guide forwalking tour through the old section of the Sakura city is alsoavailable.

Inzai Furusato Guides Association

Guide Area : Inzai city (General city tour, including visit to cultural assets)

Features : The association carries out activities to make the city’s culturalassets popular among the townspeople.

Guide Area : The Benten River, Rokken River, and the Tega River

Features : River guide on a boat through the following course: the BentenRiver - Itsukushima Shrine - Bokusui monument inscribed withhis poem - Tega River mute swan - the Rokken River - NorthChiba raceway.*1) Participants can choose 1-hour or 30-minute tour course.

NPO Onogawa to Sawara no Machinami woKangaeru Kai

Guide Area : Inoh Tadataka Memorial Museum, old townscape in the protected areaof the city’s important cultural properties, Dashi (festival car) House,and other old sections of the city.

Features : City walking tour through the town, including the old townscapein the protect area of the city’s important cultural properties(designated as one of the important traditional building groups ofthe nation), Inoh Tadataka Memorial Museum and his old house,the old store street in Onogawa, and so on.

Society to Save Carnivorous Plant Habitat in Togane,Naruto

Guide Area : Carnivorous Plant Habitat in Togane and Naruto

Features : The Togane/Naruto Carnivorous Plant Habitat is the firstnational natural monument of the type in Japan. The societycarries out volunteer activities for guiding, protection andresearches in cooperation with Yamatake City government so asto make the habitat widely known among the townspeople andtourists and hand this precious habitat down to posterity.

Minami-Boso Area

Guide Area : Tateyama city and other South Boso Area, Okinoshima Island, etc.

Features : Taking advantage of the members’ skills, knowledge andexperience, various programs of seaside naturalistic experience(environmental learning) are provided for the young, families andpeople in general.

NPO Awa Cultural Heritage Forum

Guide Area : Tateyama city and other South Boso Area

Features : Various guide programs are available, including bus tourconductor service and walking tour. Some of these programs are:visit to Akayama underground air-raid shelter and other vestigesof war; tour to old villages of seashore people; visit to the sitesnoted in connection with Nanso Satomi Hakkenden (avoluminous epic novel published in the Edo period).

Legend Narrator “Sakura-gai”

Guide Area : Places of historic, legendary and folklore interest around TateyamaBay and other South Boso Area focused on Tateyama City

Features : Multifaceted guide and hospitality (folk dance with shamisenmusic accompaniment, harmonica playing, kamishibai show,etc.) is offered with focus on folktales, legends and historicalfacts handed down from generation to generation in Boso Area.

Kisarazu Guides Association

Guide Area : Kisarazu City (Senchakuji Temple, Komyoji Temple, Shojoji Temple,Yatsurugi Hachiman Shrine, Kinreizuka, etc., Nakanoshima Bridge,Ohtayama Park)

Features : You can select one of the following courses: Nombiri (slow-moving) tour, 2-km walk, 90 minutes (seaside course); goodwalker tour, 6.1-km walk, 150 minutes (seaside plusmountainside course); free selection tour (you can choose theplaces to visit). Features : The old house of the Anzai Family is a large thatch-roofedprivate house of the Edo period and is important bothethnologically and in terms of architectural engineering. A fire ismade every day in the oven.

Town of Red Sea Bream Volunteer GuidesAssociation

Guide Area : Designated course in the Amatsu Kominato Area (within Kamogawacity)

Features : The walking course include visit to the birthplace of Holy PriestNichiren, the place of initial teaching of Nichiren Buddhism, andAmatsu

Kururi Volunteer Guides Association

Guide Area : Kururi Castle and its neighborhood, Kururi townscape, and Kazusa-drill well

Features : Kururi Castle is a mountain castle built in the Sengoku period(Warring States period that lasted roughly from the mid-15thcentury to the beginning of the 17th century). Kazusa-drill wasdeveloped in the Meiji period in the Kazusa region. The castlelasted for more than 300 years till the Meiji Restoration. AKazusa-drill well is self-pumping and so, you can drink the wellwater even now as “live water.” Kururi is the town of sakebrewing; there are 4 sake breweries in the city. Features : The Otaki townscape is interesting as there are old residencesand many private merchant houses designated as cultural assets.

NPO Daitosaki Todai Club

Guide Area : Isumi city and the surrounding area of Taito Misaki

Features : Guided tour to visit Taitosaki Lighthouse and its surroundingswhere you can enjoy Taitoh Seaside Plant Habitat and nearbyfamous temples; flora and fauna at the estuary of the Isumi River,which include natural monuments and Taitoh Seaside PlantHabitat; walk to the hilltop only.You can select 2-hour course or half-day course.
