Boshu Uchiwa

Boshu Uchiwa is one of the big three uchiwa, a non-folding traditional Japanese fan, together with Kyo Uchiwa (from Kyoto) and Marugame Uchiwa (from Marugame, Kagawa).
Dating back to the Edo period, known as the period of Tokugawa Shogunate, Boshu Uchiwa handicraft began in the southern provinces of Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture and was inherited generation by generation.
It has been designated as a traditional craftwork by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). Boshu Uchiwa now enjoys popularity as an interior decoration rather than as a fan.
